The digital divide significantly impacts student success, especially for underserved groups. Artificial intelligence has the power to both worsen and lessen these inequalities, making careful development, use, and evaluation essential. Educators will explore how to ensure fair access to AI, protect student data, and recognize bias in AI systems. This module also prepares educators to develop and advocate for rules that promote human-centered, inclusive, and culturally relevant AI in education. The goal is for all students to benefit from AI without increasing existing disadvantages.

Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the digital divide and analyze its impact on education.
  • Identify opportunities presented by AI in the educational landscape.
  • Evaluate policies related to AI in education for their promotion of active learning, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Assess how AI policies address biases in educational technology.
  • Determine the extent to which AI policies ensure Universal Design for Learning.
